Frequently Asked Questions

Is a colonoscopy painful?

No, colonoscopy is not painful. You will receive sedation that makes you sleepy and comfortable. Most patients remember little of the procedure. Dr Mahesh has performed over 3,500 colonoscopies with high patient satisfaction.

How much does a private endoscopy cost?

Gastroscopy costs from £1,500, colonoscopy from £1,800, EUS from £2,500, and ERCP from £3,000. These prices include the procedure, sedation, and follow-up consultation. Many health insurance policies cover these procedures.

Do I need a GP referral for private endoscopy?

No GP referral is needed for private consultations or procedures with Dr Mahesh. You can book directly with The Beaumont Hospital Bolton (01204 404404) or Spire Fylde Coast Blackpool (01253 308031).

How long does a colonoscopy take?

The procedure itself takes 20-45 minutes. Allow 2-3 hours total including preparation, sedation, and recovery. You will need someone to drive you home after sedation.

What preparation is needed for colonoscopy?

You will need to take bowel preparation (strong laxative) the day before to clear your bowel. Dr Mahesh's team provides detailed instructions. You cannot eat solid food for 24 hours before but can have clear fluids.

How soon can I get an appointment for endoscopy?

Private appointments are often available within 1-2 weeks. Urgent cases (suspected cancer, severe symptoms) can usually be seen sooner. Contact Dr Mahesh's secretary to check availability.
